Alice Roi Profile

Website: www.aliceroi.com

Alice Roi was born in New York in 1975. She attended NYU for a degree in BFA, majoring in Studio Art and Art History. She also studied at Parsons College of Design for a degree in fashion design.

After graduation, she worked for Elle magazine and at the Fashion Group International. She also worked for a while at Maja, where she gained hands-on experience.

She launched her own label in 1999 and quickly got attention for her wild colours and short hemlines. Her Fall 2001 saw models wearing stiff lace headgear similar to Dutch hats.

However, the next year for her Spring/Summer 2002 collection, she used blacks and grays, prompting reviewers to talk about "a more adult phase" of her designs.

This young designer is beginning to make her mark in the fashion world.

Spring/Summer 2003 Ready-to-Wear

  • Alice presented her Spring/Summer 2003 collection during the New York Fashion Week on 21st September 2002. An outfit from that collection is shown on the left hand of the page.

Autumn/Winter 2003 Ready-to-Wear
New York - February 2003

  • Alice Roi mixed downtown and uptown looks in this collection. First it was peplum skirts paired with thigh-high boots. Then low-waist cigarette pants paired with shirts and feminine blouses. She has now also started working with gowns which show great promise. Now we need to see an Alice Roi gown on Oscar night.

Spring/Summer 2004

  • Alice Roi's collection for this season was shown during New York Fashion Week in September 2003. A dress from the show is shown here on the left.
  • Alice recently received the Perry Ellis award from the CFDA for upcoming talent. Her faithful clients include Julianne Moore, Sofia Coppola and Chloe Sevigny.

Fall/Winter 2004

  • The Fall collection was shown during New York Fashion Week in February 2004. One of Alice Roi's soft flowing chiffon empire-line dresses is shown on the right. Hers was a very beautiful feminine collection, more like summer than winter.
  • Alice was inspired by Art Nouveau from the end of the 19th century and it's swirling sensuous lines.

Spring/Summer 2005

  • During New York Fashion Week in September 2004, Alice Roi presented her Spring collection. A rather unusual dress from the show is pictured on the left.
  • She nicely balanced an offbeat sense of femininity with a saleable collection. She showed smocked sundresses to slouchy trousers and cropped trench coats. A white lace dirndl skirt had a navy riding coat over the top. She got a surprise when her boyfriend Marc Beckman proposed marriage at the end of the show, by having a model hold up a poster. Then he jumped up on the catwalk with the ring. ...... She said yes.
